DEPARTMENT OF BOTANY

It is one of the life science groups of subjects. The entire living components of the Earth are directly or indirectly dependent upon Plants, of whose study is covered under BOTANY.

Botany Department
  • Department was established in 1973.
  • Well developed separate museum with about 207 rare specimens. Some of these are collected by the staff from various locations of India.
  • Collection of variety of teaching aids like Over head projector, Microscope Image projection system and Microphotography unit, charts(109) Permanent microscope slides (782), Slide Projector and transparencies(166), Fossil specimens and fossil anatomy slides (28)
  • A unique collection of over 4000 herbarium specimens and botanical garden which is under development.
  • Department regularly arranges field visits and study tour, to acquaint our students with rare vegetations of different states of India. Every year, one short and one long study tour is organized.
  • Students are motivated to participate in seminar competitions and short term training programs in Biotechnology and Molecular Biology
  • Separate departmental library of 137 books for the use of staff and students.

Our department is one of the oldest departments of our college. We have a glorious background of a renowned researcher, Dr. V. N. Pardeshi, who worked in the field of Plant Taxonomy. We are proud to have a herbarium collection of about 35000 plant species.

Every year we organize long and short study tours for our students and acquaint them with the forest wealth of India as also we take them on field and Industry visits. Up till now, we visited Central National Herbarium and J. C. Bose Botanic Garden, Indian Museum, Birla Planetarium, Science City in Kolkata and Happy Valley Tea Estate in Darjeeling; Dr. Balasaheb Sawant Konkan Krishi Vidyapeeth, Dapoli ; National Rice Research Institute, Cuttack ; Nandankanan Zoological Park and Botanical garden, Bhubaneswar; Chilika Lake, Orissa; Wheat Rust research Institute, Honey Processing center, Mahabaleshwar; Mapro Strawberry processing unit, Pachgani; Hiranya Agro tourism, Aurangabad.

Our Department successfully organized two day national conference on 5th and 6th October, 2012, based on the theme “Basic Research VS Applied Research in Life Sciences”.

Our Department also organized one day seminar on 14th Feb 2018 based on theme “Research Avenues in Life sciences”

Along with this we have also organized one day workshop for students on 7th Feb 2019 based on theme “Entrepreneurship Development in Plant Nursery business” at Pallavankur Nursery, Aurangabad.

Our Department successfully organized “University Level Intercollegiate Seminar Competition in Science” on 12 Sept. 2018

We have also arranged one day workshop for students on 24th Jan 2019 based on theme “Entrepreneurship Development in Hotel Resort Business” at Hiranya Resort, Aurangabad.

  • Ms Shital Jarare secured highest marks in the Botany, in the Mar.2014 Examinations.
  • Ms. Shital Jarare, Ms. Manasi Deshpande and Ms. Kirti Soohinda stood first, second and third respectively in entrance examination (May 2014) of Department of Botany, Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar Marathawada University, Aurangabad.
  • Twelve students of our department attended workshop on Tissue Culture Technique held on 25th Feb 2015 at Department of Botany, Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar Marathawada University, Aurangabad
  • Eight Students obtained training in Physico-chemical testing of soil samples at Government soil testing laboratory, Aurangabad in the month of June-2015.
  • Ms. Akanksha Halge and Ms. Namrta Mhaske of B. Sc. III won third prize in University level Intercollegiate Seminar Competition in Science Organized by S. B. E. S. College of Science, Aurangabad.
