ABOUT RESEARCH

S.B.E.S. College of Science believes in mission “Karmache dole gyan, te nirdosh ho aave” meaning action is needed to be followed by vision need to be absolute and was established in 1963 which is the single faculty college dedicated to inculcate the Scientific temperament with more than 50% girls and ladies staff strength. There is College Development Committee and school development committee constituted to smooth conduct of all the academic and administrative functions. It has endeavored for the development in Academic, Co- curricular and Extra-curricular activities. Affiliated University had honored The Best College Award with ‘A’ grade in 2001. NAAC has Accredited Four star status to the institute in September 2001 and is the first institute in Marathwada region to get NAAC accreditation, subsequently in September 2014 NAAC Accredited ‘A’ grade to the college in its second cycle. College is ISO certified and with Green Audit and conducted administrative, academic audits from affiliated university and government. College has glorious tradition of smooth teaching, learning and evaluation process, and university merit holders and research activities. Considering the feedback and the suggestions given by last NAAC peer team, college has fulfilled almost all remarks successfully and thrust a priority area selected by college is its contribution in research.

Institution is an oldest and reputed college in the Maharashtra and having a reputation for consistent good teaching learning, research, KRC and infrastructural facilities supporting higher educational ecosystem, devoted for science.The college has a tradition of reputed teachers working in different subjects with a background of research. There are 10 research guides and with 24 students completed their Ph.D and 21 registered for doctoral degree, and published 203 research papers in reputed journals and 27 in conference proceeding from 2014 to 2019.

Most of the staff is with doctorate degree with 10 research guides and from 2014 to 2019, 47 research students registered for Ph.D degree out of which 24 research students awarded Ph.D. degree. Up till now 203 research papers have been published in national and international journals with significant impact factor. 27 research papers published in conference proceedings. 3 faculties are acting as reviewers of research journals and 3 on editorial boards. Most of the faculties are the life members of research related bodies/associations e.g. Analytical Chemistry Teachers and Researchers Association, Indian Science Congress, International College of Nutrition, Society of Environmental Sciences, Dumca, Society for Science and Environment, International Academy of Science and Research (Kolkata), Confederation of India Universities (CIU), International Foundation for Environment and Ecology etc. College faculties have completed UGC funded 1 major and 9 minor research projects costing 18.29 lacks. College has maintained national and international relationships with other institutes within and abroad like -

  • International foundation for environment and ecology, Kolkata and conducted international conference on 18/02 to 20/02/2019.
  • Paul Hebert center for DNA Bar-coding and Biodiversity studies(Research laboratory extended by Dept. of Zoology, Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar Marathwada University, Aurangabad . This laboratory is linked with Biodiversity Institute, Guelph University Oontaria, Canada. Dr.K.S.Khobragade have the research collaboration with laboratories for the facility and technical support for her UGC major research project and published research papers and attended 6th international conference organized by Guelph University.
  • International lake environmental committee (ILEC), Japan is working on the conservation of lakes and its environment throughout the world from 1982. On behalf of our institution Dr. Kshama Khobragade is the member of ILEC-ILBM expert group committee who is working on Lonar Crater Lake since 1998 and presented her research work on the dais of ILEC. ILEC organizes world lake conference from 1982 whose aim is to create scientific, social awareness thereby take initiatives by every stake holder in this objective.
  • Our sports department has association with international Olympic, national Olympic and international sports federation through Prof. Shubhangi Joshi (Bhatt), as she is grade one national badminton umpire.

One of the faculty, Prof. Anjali S. Sohani from Department of Computer Science has grabbed patent titled “A vehicle tracking system with real-time reporting” in 2019. College has digitized library with more than 40,000 books, reference books, journals, e-journals and librarian is research guide from 3 different recognized Universities in the field of library science. Faculties have published 6 books and 14 chapters in different books, 9 awards during last 5 years. College has organized 14 workshops/seminars in assessment year.

College provides sports facilities with spacious playground, gymnasium hall, badminton court and has produced many International, National players with 10 Shiv-Chhatrapati Awardees which is the highest award given by the Govt. of Maharashtra to the player for his excellence in the sports field. Director of Physical Education is also a recognized guide and Shiv-Chhatrapati Awardee. To promote the research activities college has “central research laboratory” a common facility for multidisciplinary research is available in the campus. College has 39 collaborative activities for research, faculty exchange and student exchange programs. Students participate in Avishkar Research Exhibition regularly conducted affiliated University. College has 25 MOU’s with industries, educational institute, corporate houses for research and placement. To motivate the school and college students towards research, college has established “Incubation Center” through which college organizes scientific exhibition competitions, poster presentations, seminars, open day etc. One of the student Anay Joshi (B.Sc. S.Y.) applied for patent on 4-strok bicycle. We maintain good connectivity with alumni through registered alumni association “Runanubandh” with regular meetings. College has established “foreign desk” for students for guidance through alumni living and working abroad. Government of Maharashtra has sanctioned NAMP Project for Air Pollution Monitoring in Aurangabad 2005 and sanctioned 8 lacks grant per year. College has earned the revenue of Rs. 211265.00 through this consultancy services. Along with this research laboratory also analyses and help to farmers for testing water and soil samples. College has already started UGC sanctioned 4 B.Voc. courses in information technology, interior designing, soil and water conservation and acting through which we have offered new skill oriented courses. To support value education and skill, college has started self financed 11 add on certificate courses. College has state of the art laboratories, ICT enabled classrooms, e-library facilities too. Though teachers with above facilities but needs more facilities to upgrade and expand their research activities.

The college has developed central instrumentation facility for PG and Research Students and Teachers. The equipments purchased under major and minor research projects, research budget are kept in the laboratory. Some of the advanced instruments available are: The advance instruments are AAS, Respirable dust sample (RDS) double distillation plant, flame photometer, COD etc. Research collaboration with Paul Herbert Center of affiliated university it is related to DNA Bar-coding & Biodiversity Studies. It is linked with International Barcode of life projects and also linked to Guelph University Ontario, Canada.

NAMP Project Research project with central pollution control board New Delhi since 2005, & Maharashtra pollution Control Board (MPCB) is going on, Rs.8 Lacks grant receives per year. In this project monitoring of gaseous SO2, NO2 & Particulate PM10, PM25 & SPM is done & revenue generated in 211265 Rupees.

College having incubation Centre to motivate school students of our society and neighboring schools for inculcating scientific temper, so that in future they will act as budding scientist.
