Mathematics is the gate and key of the Science. It is the branch of science that deals with numbers, values, numerical operations, structures, space and change. It developed through the use of abstraction and logical reasoning, from counting, calculation, measurement and the study of the shapes and motions of physical objects. Mathematics is significant in our daily lives because we use a lot of what we were taught in our daily activities. For Ex. you look at the clock and read the time, that is maths. You buy something from the shop and you use money, that is maths. We need math with almost everything we do. Shopping, balancing our checkbook, counting and teaching our children.

All the sciences such as Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Medicine and Engineering progress only with the aid of Mathematics. So it is aptly remarked, “Mathematics is a science of sciences and art of all arts.” Mathematics is a creation of human mind concerned chiefly with ideas, processes and reasoning. It is much more than Arithmetic, more than Algebra more than Geometry. Also it is much more than Trigonometry, Statistics, and Calculus.

The scope of mathematics and statistics has no boundaries. These subjects teach a person to be a good problem solver, and that is the key of reaching the pinnacle of success in any career. The largest percentage of students who major in mathematics pursue careers in education. In fact, the three top jobs on the 2009 list were mathematician, actuary and statistics- the study of mathematics achieved a trifecta!! that the top 15 highest-earning college degrees share one thing: mathematics. Mathematics develops the skills of reasoning, developing new ideas and formulating new approaches and finally drawing logical conclusions.

Government Jobs

Wherever you go, whether it is economics or consultancy or computer science, mathematics is necessary for the execution of plans. In industry too, in order to compute inventory lapses, mathematical sciences play a very important role.

Mathematicians have immense scope in Government jobs also. The National Security Agency is the principal single employer of mathematicians in the country. It offers positions at all degree levels: Bachelors, Masters, and Ph.D. The responsibilities of these mathematicians include designing and analyzing complex algorithms and expressing intricate cryptographic problems in mathematical terms.

In fact, Mathematicians and Statisticians are everywhere, in almost every sphere of life. So today India needs Mathematicians who can do good work in different fields like School, Colleges, Industry, Bank, Research and development etc.
