Department of Analytical Chemistry

DEPARTMENT OF ANALYTICAL CHEMISTRY

Analytical chemistry is the science of Chemical characterization and it is concerned with the methods used in Chemical Analysis. The scope of Analytical Chemistry is in different areas like Inorganic chemistry, Organic chemistry, Physical chemistry, Environmental science, and Agriculture Science, Biomedical and Clinical chemistry, Electronics, Forensic Science.etc.

Prof.Izak Kolthaff is the father of Analytical Chemistry. He was given this title based in his development of Analytical Chemistry as a modern science. His research dealt with analytical and physical chemistry. His main research topic included potentiometry, conductometry, polarography, theory and application of indicators, acid base equilibria and dttration in aqueous and non aqueous media, formation properties and aging of prescipitates,adsorption,co-precipitation,post-precipitation. During world war he served as chairman of the committee on Analytical research methods and supervisor of three research projects for the U.S.Government on synthetic or ”Cold process” rubber.

The areas of specialization in Analytical chemistry are Organic, Inorganc, Industrial, Bio, Medicinal and Drug chemistry. In 21st century much development found in the areas of polymer, environmental, medicinal, Agrochemicals, forensic and computer chemistry. Chemical industry is one of the fastest growing sectors of Indian economy.

Analytical Chemistry Department
  • The college introduced Analytical chemistry as one of the optional subjects at the undergraduate level in 1983 and P.G.level in 2005.
  • Right from its inception upto 1993, it was under the supervision of Dr.N.R.Manjramkar.
  • The Dr.D.V.Muley was served as head of dept. from 1993 to 2008. Since then Dr.C.D.Thakur is working as a Head.
  • The Teaching is supplemented by conducting student’s seminar and group discussion.
  • National Chem. Lab. Pune, Regional Research Lab, Hyderabad are some of the institutes where the modern analytical techniques were demonstrated to students.
  • Analytical chemistry is mainly linked with quality control in the manufacturing process.
  • Faculty members possess use of modern equipments.
